No Ghosts in MY House Please...

It often surprises people to learn that many experienced ghost hunters actively want their own homes to remain quiet and undisturbed. Despite regularly investigating reportedly haunted buildings, most professional investigators would never conduct an investigation in their own living space, nor would they use spirit boards or attempt communication at home.
This is not driven by fear, but by understanding and discipline.
A home is fundamentally different from an investigation site. It is a place of rest, emotional regulation, family life, and psychological safety. Introducing investigative practices into that environment can blur boundaries and create unnecessary anxiety or heightened awareness, which in turn can amplify normal environmental or emotional responses.
Experienced investigators understand the importance of clear intent and controlled settings. Paranormal work is conducted in specific locations, for defined reasons, and with structured methods. At home, those controls are absent. Daily stress, fatigue, and emotional fluctuations can influence perception, making it harder to distinguish between meaningful anomalies and normal household experiences.
Spirit boards, in particular, are widely misunderstood. While opinions differ on how they function, most professionals agree that casual or unsupervised use, especially in the home, is unwise. Without structure, experience, and clear closure, such practices can encourage continued focus on activity rather than resolution.
Professional investigators do not seek interaction for its own sake. They seek understanding, evidence, and, where appropriate, calm and closure. That respect extends to their own living spaces. At Paranormal Hunters UK, we believe that maintaining a quiet home is part of being a responsible investigator. Knowing where to investigate, and where not to, is a hallmark of professionalism. SO, no ghosts in my house please.
